Outlook rule turns itself off.

When I setup a rule in Outlook to organize incoming email, it may work for a
while but then turns itself off. If I turn it back on, either it eventually
turns off again or I get the error message that the rule couldn't be run.
Any ideas as to what's going on, or what I can do to fix it? I am using
Outlook 2000.

When a rule is executed (which is not every mail poll if other rules have a
stop clause that prevents getting to this rule), and if any of the targets
defined in that rule do not exist (like moving to a folder that doesn't
exist), the rule fails because it is invalidly defined. Even if it points,
for example, to the Junk folder but you changed which message store (.pst
file) you use then the pointer for the old Junk folder in the old message
store is not the same pointer in the new message store, and you have to
click on the targets in the rule to select them again (even if they have the
same name since names are not used but instead pointers are used to identify
a target in the message store's database).
