Outlook retrieving data from microsoft exchange server

Chris

I am trying to assist several remote users for my
company. When they are vpn'd in and connecting to Outlook
a message box pops up saying "Outlook is retrieving data
from Microsoft Exchange Serve <servername>. You can
cancel the request or minimize this message to the Windows
taskbar until Outlook closes the message automatically."
I realize I can have them cancel the request or minimize
it - but the message box returns, or outlook hangs and is
basically unusable. I have found tons of postings all
over with people having this problem, but no solution....
and suggestions would be appreciated.

Chris,

99 times out of 100 this is not an Outlook problem. It's usually caused by
an Exchange Server performance problem, a DNS issue, protocol issue (client
failing over to Named Pipes due to server configuration problem), or other
network related problems. Unfortunately, a netmon trace is the best way to
diagnose this problem and that's not something I can offer in the
newsgroups. So, in the absence of a netmon trace you could start with the
following article.

325930 How to troubleshoot connectivity issues that are caused by RPC client

Hope this helps.
