Outlook Resource Calendar Direct Booking does not remove cx'd meetings

We recently configured a resource calendar for our conference rooms.
The scheduling and direct booking are working great for the staff.
However, if a meeting is cancelled/deleted the meeting is not removed
from the ConferenceRoom resouce calendar, everyone else recieves a
message that the meeting has been cancelled. This is starting to cause
some confusion as cx'ed meetings are still on the conference room
calendar. Is there an option somewhere to have it automatically
removed from the resource calendar? Is there a different way to go
about cx'ing the meeting? Is this built by design? The staff does not
want to manually delete the cancellations from the calendar. Any
advice or suggestions?

Outlook 2003 - (office sp's and updates installed)
Windows Xp Pro
