Outlook.pst not closed properly

When I start Outlook 2002, I ALWAYS get this message:
The data file "Personal Folders" was not closed properly.
The file is being checked for problems.

This takes up to fifteen minutes and is very annoying. I think this started
when I first used Mobile Phone Tools to sync with my Motorola phone. But I
can't prove that. and I haven't used it in a long time.

I assume it means the .pst is flawed. However, it always works fine after
the "checking." Can anyone tell me how to repair the .pst?

Thanks,
Bob

Make sure Outlook is closed before restarting the computer. The synch tools
could keep your Outlook session open.

I always close Outlook before shutting down. It doesn't matter. This
situation arises even if I close Outlook and immediately re-open it. It
doesn't seem to have anything to do with Windows shutdown or restart.

Does the outlook.exe also stops whenyou close Outlook?
Does the same happen when you start Outlook in Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

No. When I close Outlook, I don't find outlook.exe in either Applications or
Processes in the task manager. By the way, I'm on Win 2000 Pro.

When you open and close Outlook in Outlook Safe Mode will you get prompted
to do a repair the next time you open Outlook?

The supplier of Mobile Phone Tools has acknowledged that their software
caused the problem and have given me a new version. I think I'll have to
rebuild the .pst to fix it, maybe even reinstall Outlook.

Thanks very much for your concern and your help.
