Outlook program closed but still receives emails

I have Outlook 2k and when I shut the program down it
will keep receiving emails. To get this to stop I have to
reboot the computer. This has happened ever since I
reformatted the HDD and reloaded the OS and Office. I
have scanned the system many times with McAfee and the
newest DAT files but have found no viri, as well as
uninstalling and reinstalling office. What is the problem
and solution?

when you close outlook, is it def. closed ? is it still running as a task in
the background ?
