Outlook/Outlook Express

Richie NY

I want to run Outlook as the default mail client, but
unlike Outlook Express, the setting for selecting Outlook
as default does not exist, so even though I have my mail
account in Outlook, OE keeps popping up as default and in
OE the option to say "NO" as default is greyed out??

TIA

If you are saying that in Internet Explorer, Tools\Internet
Options\Programs, Outlook is not available in the dropdown list next to
E-mail, try reinstalling Outlook.

Michael,

No I may have worded that incorrectly, sorry, I meant the
reverse, I use OE as default and Outlook opens, let's say
when you click the mail icon at the top of the explorer,
rather than OE. OE's option to state default client is
greyed out.

From an earlier post by DGuess
START | Run
then type in the following (making any changes to the folder location of OE
as needed, default pathlist is shown)

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

Press ENTER
This will make OE the default email program.
Make sure you have the quotes containing the path to msimn.exe (Outlook
Express) and the /reg after the quotes.

If Ron's post in this thread doesn't resolve the issue, then what I posted
for Outlook is the same for Outlook Express, open IE, go to Tools, Internet
Options and on the Programs tab, select Outlook Express from the dropdown
list next to E-mail, click apply and ok.
