Win keeps defaulting to Outlook as default mail prog - not OE (as desired)

After a recent automatic update, my default mail client changed from OE to
MS Outlook. I've tried logging on as and Administrator and changing the
default mail program in "Set program access and defaults", but it still
keeps opening MS Outlook. I've tried a program that I downloaded some time
ago that changes the default mail program, but the default changes after a
reboot. When I go to "Internet Options" in the Control Panel it lists OE as
the default client but when I click on a link (in Explorer or Firefox) I
still get MS Outlook!!

Can anybody help?
