Outlook on a limited account

Can I clarify my earlier post? I was actually talking about Outlook, not
Outlook Express, and perhaps I did not make myself clear. My version of
Outlook on my account functions fine all the time. My wife's version of
Outlook functions fine when her account is an administrator one. When I
change her account to limited status, her version of Outlook does not open,
but gives an error message to the effect that 'these folders could not be
opened' and the server was not available, which is not the case, because the
server is operating fine as far as my account is concerned (and as far as
her account is concerned when it has administrator status). Changing her
account back to an Administrator's account solves the problem. How can I get
at the settings which are causing this problem?

Wherever her .pst file is stored had admin permissions and under the other
account she won't have those permissions. So, as the admin, you will have
to go to that folder and change permissions to include her account to have
access to it.

Her mail profile appears to be referencing a PST that the limited account
has no permission to reference. Where is the PST she's trying to open?

In her account, open Control Panel, select User Accounts, then Mail (if
she's using the Category view of CP) or Control Panel>Mail (if she's using
the Classic view). Select her profile and choose Data Files. Read where
Outlook is trying to find the PST.

How do I find and change permissions on a folder?

You shouldn't have to do this. Instead, her PST (which I'm assuming is
different from yours) should be in a folder to which she already has access,
like %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook, which
is the default location for a user's PST. If there's already a PST with the
same name in that folder, don't overwrite it. Put the PST she's supposed to
be referencing in another folder in the %UserProfile% path, like My
Documents. Update the mail profile to point to it in its new location.

Thank you for your help. I tried putting the pst file in another folder but
I still got the same error. And why is it telling me the server can't be
found? The strange thing is that changing my daughter's account from an
administrator to a limited account made no difference at all to Outlook's
functioning on her account.

What type of account is defined in Outlook? For Outlook 2000, click
Tools>Service or Tools>Accounts (depending on C/W mode or IMO mode) and for
Outlook 2002/2003, click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next
