Outlook is default mail client, but sometimes emails go into OE

Hi,
I am running Outlook 2003 which I have made my default mail client. And I
have made OE *not* my default mail client. All of my mail should therefore
be delivered to my Outlook account.

I use Outlook Express only as my news reader, not for email. However, I
have found that occasionally when OE is running, some emails will appear in
my OE Inbox. Other emails from the same senders still normally go into my
Outlook Inbox. I can't see why on relatively rare occasions (maybe 1 in 20)
incoming emails go into OE instead. If OE is shut down, it is not a
problem.

As a result of this, I miss some of my emails -- until I discover them maybe
a few days later in OE. Does anyone know a solution to this? Have I set up
either Outlook or OE incorrectly?

Thanks in advance for any help.

run Outlook Express (msimn.exe) as a News Reader from a shortcut with the
/outnews switch added. that will disable email transport in OE.
The shortcut would be similar to:
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews

That's not a logical conclusion at all. Even if Outlook Express is NOT your
default mail client, if you still have an email account defined in it and
you run it, it will download the mail. If you use OE only for news, remove
the mail accounts from it.

Thanks Bill and Brian for your responses. I am going to try Bill's
suggestion for now. Starting with the "/outnews" (or "/mailonly" I find)
switch, apparently disables the Inbox in OE (or at least hides it), so this
should meet my need. If it doesn't work, then I will try Brian's
suggestion.

I Googled "msimn.exe" and "/outnews" and found a site which lists a number
of OE command line switches which look interesting.

Thanks again to you both.

Not "/mailonly", but "/newsonly". The only difference between those two
switches is that for the first, Outlook Express will call itself the
"Microsoft Outlook Newsreader" in the title bar, whereas for the second one,
Outlook Express will still call itself Outlook Express in the title bar.
Other than that, they work identically. The "/mailonly" switch disables the
newsreader function within Outlook Express.

Sorry, that was just a slip of the brain -- I actually meant "/newsonly". I
was also reading about "/mailonly" and apparently got them mixed up when
responding.
