Outlook and OE both default mail handler?

Hello,
Not sure if what I'd like is possible, but here's a brief description. Any
advice anyone might have would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows of a
more appropriate forum for the question, please let me know. This just
seemed like the best place to start.

We have a computer running XP Home Edition. My wife and I have separate XP
Profiles. I prefer Outlook (2003) as my mail handler, while she prefers
Outlook Express (whichever version comes with IE7).

Right now, Outlook is the default mail handler. When my wife logs on to the
machine and opens OE, it tells her that OE is not the default mail handler.
If she says "Yes" to OE, then I get the message from Outlook next time I log
in.

So, my question. Is there a way to specificy a default mail handler by XP
Account? I'd think that there would be a way for the machine to know who was
logged in and select the default mail program based on that.

AFAIK, Windows XP only allows one client to be the default handler for all
accounts; i.e., it is a global setting. The way I handle it is to use the
Start Menu properties to customize the Start Menu. You can select a
non-default mail client to show up in the Start Menu. This works for both
the browser (top icon) and mail client (second icon) in the Start Menu.
