Outlook Hangs on POP Check

Hello. I have Outlook 2003 with the latest updates. I'm running WinXP Pro
with updates. I have three POP accounts in Outlook. When I hit
"send/receive" or it automatically sends and receives every 5 minutes,
Outlook hangs on the second and third POP account and generates a timeout
message about 60% of the time. The other 40% the POP polling will be
successful after about 1 minute. Basically the POP polling is very very slow
and fails only on the second and third account 60% of the time. At first I
thought it was the ISP's POP servers so I changed the default account which
changed the POP polling order. The first one always checks immediately but
the 2nd and third times out. I've even used the POP server addresses to
bypass any DNS issues. Any ideas? This is aggravating.

Here's the error:

Task '(e-mail address removed) - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation
timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you
continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).'

Thanks,

Up your autosend/receive to 10 minutes, 5 minutes is often too short to allow
the servers to communicate and perform their tasks.

Marcus,
Thanks but I don't think this is the issue. Whichever account that I have
poll first works fine. The next two always hang. This would leave me to
believe it's an Outlook issue.

Did you try?, or just assume?
A polling time of less than 10mins can lead to resource and other problems -
it is not reccommended

With a server access time period under ten minutes, you could run into the
case where the previous POP3 session is still working when the new session
is attempted. A longer time between polls is recommended.
