Outlook hangs on load

Here's an interesting one.

Running Outlook 2003 client w/ Exchange 2003 on SBS 2003.
47 PC's total, all work fine except for one. It has been reinstalled 2
days ago and was originally configured by the IT guy here, who set up
his email in Outlook with no problems.

The PC has since been reconfigured for the user and Outlook will not
load. When the application starts up, it simply hangs. I have tried
logging in with several different accounts (both administrative &
user) all do the same thing.

I logged in and killed the Outlook profile key in the registry
(HKLU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging
System - or something like that). In my experience, this fixes most
profile-related issues in Outlook. Just to be sure, I also wiped the
user's profile on the workstation & server (after backing it up, of
course).

Starting Outlook now brought up the usual "Create Email Account" box.
So I selected "Exchange Mailbox" and entered the server name and
mailbox name for the user account under which I was logged in.
Clicking "Check Names" underlined the server name and mailbox name,
indicating connectivity to the Directory.

Clicking Next, however, caused Outlook to hang again.

I have rinsed and repeated this procedure with several different user
accounts.. all do the same thing. All of these users are, however,
able to connect to their mailboxes fine from any other PC.

Here's the kicker. When the IT guy (who set up the PC) logs into the
domain, he is able to load Outlook and use his email just fine. Nobody
else can, except for him.

I have applied all Windows and Office 2003 updates with no joy.

I'm just about at the end of my rope with this one. Any ideas?

Success!

Figured it out. I logged the user into another PC, logged them back out
again (hence saving his profile to the server). Then deleted his local
profile on the PC experiencing the Outlook issues and got him to log back in
again. And it worked!

I'm still at a loss to explain how this happened though.. If anyone has any
thoughts, please do share just in case I run into this again in future!

Cheers,

- Martin
