Michael,
If you're on DSL I'll assume that ample bandwidth exists so that you should
be able to open messages even on incoming messages without fear of hanging
the system. Since your having this issue even when you open previously
downloaded items I think that it is a moot issue anyway.
That leads me to believe that there is some corruption either with the local
profile or the application itself. Try these two steps and see if it makes
a difference for you. First run a "Detect and Repair." Simply open any
Office application and choose "Detect and Repair" from the help menu.
Second, run a scan against the local PST file. You can do this by
navigating to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033" and
selecting scan.pst. Once you launch scan.pst simply navigate to your pst
file and start the process.
Kind Regards,

It happens with any attachments that I try to open. I always wait for the
attachment to completely download and other email is being downloaded for
new
mail attachments.
I have a DSL connection
Thanks
