Outlook freezes & polling quits after XP SP2 install

Since installing WinXP SP2, many clients are complaining of brief (15 seconds
to 1 minute) of freezing or slowness in Outlook. We are running Exchange
2000 SP3 on Windows 2000 - clients include Outlook 2000 SP-3 with a small mix
of 2002 & 2003.
**XP SP2 Firewall is OFF (we have been experimenting with disabling the
Firewall service completely which seems to help).

I've seen many posts about other problems but nothing about freezing and/or
application hangs in Outlook after XP SP2 installation. Any information or
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Is there anything logged to the Event Viewer? Do you have a virusscanner
installed that integrates with Outlook? See if disabling this solves your
issue.

Tips of the month:
-Properly back-up and restore your Outlook data
-Create an Office 2003 CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 1

Yes, I always check the EV logs. What I have found are two things. Some
users who just complain that Outlook will freeze for 30 sec. and then come
back and work OK do not tend to have anything related in the logs. Other
users who report that their Outlook locks up (hangs) and then closes
periodically get logs which indicate "Application Hang" and reference the
executable "Outlook.exe 9.0.0.6604". From what I found, most users who get
the App. Hang were having some problems with other office apps as well before
installing XP SP2, but the logs indicate the problem has now worsened.

As for a/v, we use Symantec AV Corporate Ed. 8.1.0 -- there is an Add-in for
Outlook (SavCorp810) which I have just disabled on a couple of user pc's to
see if it makes a difference.

Last note - a couple of the users have had Office reinstalled (fresh
install) after XP SP2 installation and that seems to have resolved the issues
on most of the problematic pc's. Will send an update once this fix has had
more time to cook.
