Outlook fails to get mail (and sometimes to send mail)

XP Pro / Outlook 2003

Often, the email client works fine.

However, also often, the user is asked for username / password although they
are already there.

Testing the email account shows that receiving mail is always the last thing
to happen and is usually the first thing to fail. Sometimes sending fails.

I suspect a type of timeout problem. Setting timeout values seems to not do
the trick.

The client is running on a LAN with a WinProxy server firewall and a Linksys
router with NAT cascaded.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Fred

XP Pro with Outlook 2000 client seems to have the same problem but much less
frequently.

Windows 2000 with Outlook xxxx clients seem to not have this problem at all.

So, this appears to be an XP Pro / Outlook 2003 - related problem.

Suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Fred
