Outlook Express2003 Closes Automatically

C

Outlook Express continually closes right after I open it and I can't get it
to remain open - it just started doing it with no specific error message and
I have no idea how to go about fixing it or what to do - any suggestions. I
am using Vista if that helps.

It says Microsoft Office Outlook - I somohow got into safe switch by accident
- not sure I could do it again and it shut down too - It just occured out of
the blue - was working fine - has been for months since I got my new computer
and this just started tonight. What would Outlook Express be - I am really
pretty computer ignorant - jsut enough knowledge to get myself in trouble - I
try to trouble shoot and then end up paying someone to come and fix it for me
and it just p*ss*s me off!!!

Are you using Outlook Express or Outlook 2003?

Assuming Outlook 2003, does it work if you start outlook using the /safe
switch?

I am using Microsoft Outlook Office 2003 - everything has been fine since I
got my new computer in December - and then all of a sudden tonight it starts
shuting down after about 30 seconds of loading - I am a real tech novice and
try and trouble shoot myself and then usually end up paying someone and it
really p*ss*s me off that I can't figure it out myself! I ended up in the
safe mode by accident one time not sure how I got there and not sure how to
get back there and it did it there to I think since nothing would keep it
loaded.

I am using Microsoft Outlook Office 2003 - I ended up in safe switch by
accident and since it still shut down that didnt seem to work either - no
matter what I do it shuts down after about 30 seconds - new computer in
December and everything worked fine until tonight - have tried it about 30
times in a row and it keeps shutting down - wouldnt know how to try safe mode
again however. I am a novice when it comes to tech stuff and although I try
to fix things myself usually end up paying someone to fix things and it
really p*ss*s me off!! Any other suggestions?

wow - kept getting an error message so had no idea the reply was really going
through - didnt mean to repeat myself three times - am wondering if the
calendar may be causing the problem - the reminder screen keeps popping up
right before it shuts down - could this be causing the mess up - if so cant
find a way to delet it or stop it.

Did this come with your computer or did you pay extra for it? It may be a
trial version and it has expired

it may be the reminder.

See http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/switches.htm for help on using
switches. You'll want to try the /cleanreminders switch and if it doesn't
help, /safe switch.

came with my computer. Bought the package at Best Buy. Could it be anything
with the Calendar and the reminders?

Thanks Diane - I tried that last night both the clean reminers and the safe
switch and same thing happened and tried again today - when I put the long
thread in that it suggests I get an error message that there is no such file,
but the short Outlook/cleanreminders seems to be ok, but Outlook immediately
closes down. Since I don't have the soft ware I cant even delete and reload
it and I cant afford to lose my caldendar since I am a therapist and it has
all my appointments. I have back up but the backup doesnt seem to backup the
calendar for some reason. Is this something I should just bite the bullet and
call someone to fix!!!

I had an issue when Dismissing a reminder OL would crash. Alias gave me a
tip to run "scanpst.exe" located in "program Files/Microsoft Office". It
fixed my problem, maybe it will fix yours also.

Where do I find "program Files/Microsoft Office" and then how do I run what
you suggested - If you think it's something too complicated for me just say
so, but I do follow directions well - I am asssuming it is not just in "Run"
on the Start Up page -

What version of Outlook do you have installed? Have you looked at Start>All
Programs>Microsoft Office Tools or Start.All Programs>Microsoft
Office>Microsoft Office Tools for an entry entitled "Inbox Repair Tool"?

still waiting for my computer guy to call but in the meantime I have not
given up - spent the last half hour trying to find what you suggested looked
every where I could think of - where would I go to find Start>All
Programs>Microsoft Office Tools or Start.All Programs>Microsoft
Office>Microsoft Office Tools - they certainly arent where I was looking -
you see what you are dealing with here!!!!! now if you need good therapy I
can help you there!!!

have spent the last half hour looking for Start>All Programs>Microsoft Office

certainly not anywhere I was looking - still waiting for computer guy to call
back so I persevere - hate not being able to do something - can you give me a
little more info as to where to look for the above -

I really appreciate everyone's help but I did a search under "My Computer -
C drive" for "scanpst.exe" as was suggested and came up with nothing - also
did one for Outlook Tools Repair and came up with nothing - also the other
things you all have indicated here - what AM I Doing Wrong??? - I don't know
where else to look for these files - It should be so simple by what you all
are suggesting. I tried doing Outlook/cleanreminders and Outlook/switches
with no success either - Just a reminder I am using Microsoft Outlook Office
2003 and I am running Vista - I am pretty certain it has something to do with
the reminders becasue it crashes just as the reminder pops up on screen.

Click Start. In the Search box at the bottom of the menu, enter

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\scanpst.exe"

including the quotes and spaces. Press Enter. You could also try running
Outlook once with the /cleanreminders command switch. Click Start and in the
Search box enter

outlook.exe /cleanreminders

Be sure to include the space. Press Enter.

Oops. I gave you the wrong path to the scanpst.exe program. Instead of what
I said in the prior message, use:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\system\MSMAPI\1033\scanpst.exe"
