Outlook 2000 won't close

Cannot get Outlook 2000 (w/ SP3) to fully close. When I shut the program down
it still continues to retreive messages from my mail server. The only way to
fully close it is to open task manager and kill the Outlook process since it
doesn't close when simply close the program down.

This started happening a couple of weeks ago after automatic updates
installed 11 updates.

Any ideas?
