Outlook Express

I recently got a new computer (Lenovo) already loaded with Vista. I decided
to switch back to my XP home edition. When I re-installed the XP and the
Office for Students & Teachers, I no longer had any of my old emails in
Outlook. Doesn't it just sit in the mailbox? Why would it be gone and can I
get it back??
Thanks for any help.

You didn't describe what you had and you don't say what your mail account
type is (SMTP, Exchange, IMAP), so the folowig assumes a home user with a
POP mail account.

Your mail resides in the server mailbox only if you instructed whatever mail
client you were using to leave it on the server. By default, the mail
client deletes messages from the server when they're downloaded. And if you
didn't transfer the data from whatever PC you were using before you got the
new one, then you've lost it.
