when upgrading to vista business from XP I lost outlook express. I assume
it no longer exists in Vista.

Any alternatives to Outlook express in Vista?

Thanks,

The new version of Outlook Express is called Windows Mail in Vista.

I likeWindows Mail, but I find the icons kind of difficult to navigate. For
example, because I cannot find the icon I would usually use to create a new
thread, I have to go to the menu bar and go to File/New. It works the same
as OE for the most part but is different in some other but insignificant
ways.

In fact, I set up Microsoft Office Outlook which I really liked as far as
all the features went, but the data was all over the map, so I looked for OE
too. I saw and checked out the WM and tada! There was OE under a different
name, but not as user friendly anymore.

One word of advice though, if you check your email from more than once
source - i.e.: WM, MSO, Verizon Central, Yahoo!, MSN, Google GMail, etc. -
choose and use ONLY one because it will make it difficult for you to find
any email you may have just read and want to forward, read, or print out.
You may even lose important email or find yourself not receiving email that
you would otherwise receive as I discovered.

What program should I use that would also handle newsgroups?

Muttering: I should get an XP Pro machine and run Vista as a Virtual PC.

Generally speaking combined email and news clients are not the best of
programs. Ditch Windows Mail/Outlook Express, they're both buggy and
non-compliant. Eudora is a terrific email program, see:

Get the light version free, or pay $19.95 for the full version from:

http://www.eudora.com/

For news you can't do much better than XanaNews, which is free and far
better than any Microsoft offering:

thanks, will implement it as newsgroups. By now Outlook should have
incorporated the newsgroup function.
