We have two identical laptops running Windows XP SP1 made from the same
Ghost image. They both have Office 97, except one has Outlook 2000
instead of 97. Both users use Outlook Express 6 for their email. Both
computer have the default email client set as Outlook Express in the IE
options, the Set Program Access and Defaults, and the "URL:MailTo
Protocol" file type. The problem is, for the user with Outlook 2000,
when you click the email icon in IE and select "New Message...", it
keeps asking to choose an Outlook profile, despite all defaults being
set to Outlook Express.
The reason we need this to work is because they use a VB program that
calls the default MAPI mail client, and it keeps trying to open an
Outlook Profile. How can we get Windows to behave and use the email
client we set as the default (OE)?
