Hello I get following error messages when trying to log on to Outlook Express
6 (translated from Swedish):

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your
Password was rejected. Account: 'm1.182.telia.com',
Server: 'm1.182.telia.com', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR [AUTH] invalid user or password', Port: 110, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

and

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.
Possible causes for this include server problems, network
problems, or a long period of inactivity.
Account: 'm1.182.telia.com',
Server: 'm1.182.telia.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response '+OK 1162
bytes', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

How can I solve this? ..I've already searched this forum but nothing seems
to help..

Thanks

Often your ISP may have problems with email. Best to wait a day or so
before you tweak anything and wait for them to fix it. Often, if you
call your isp, they will admit to having a problem on their end.

This problem is going for about a month now.. and it's not the first time..
Outlook usually gives this error after about 2-3 month after I reinstall
whole windows. I did total reinstall of windows 4-5 times now (in 2 years),
but this seems to be quite tedious..

Peter, I followed instructions in the link you gave, but I couldn't find
"Internet Services (IIS) Manager" in my "Administrative Tools" :(
I'm using XP home edition.

Sorry for bugging you all, but I'm desperate... can't OE just work?..

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

<paste>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.
</paste>

I've tried following without any positive results:

Ensuring that password&nick is ok (yp I copied and pasted it from notepad)

Ensuring that incoming&outgoing servers are correct (I have them on a paper
from my provider)

Disabling all Norton antivirus email scanning

Deleting all rules for OE in firewall and readding them all while giving
them a full access (for some reason there was 4 microsoft outlook express and
1 microsoft outlook icons..)

Typed the ports 25&110 into the HTTP port list in the Norton Internet
Security firewall..

Banged my head into the wall, two times

Humm, what more...

Dammit, soon I'll start to cry... Is there other programs that can check
mail on my email account? Like, if I type in my POP3 and SMTP servers, email
adress and password? I mean programs that are working..

Thanks for putting out with me sofar..

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity
(File>Identities>Add new identity). Assuming all is well, import messages
from the old Identity before deleting it (File>Identities>Manage
Identities).

To avoid such corruption in future:

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Yay! Thanks alot yellodog, it worked. I did like you've said. I first tested
to log on into my account through my providers page (first time I hear one
could do that) and it worked. Then I changed that msconfig thingy and OE
worked.
Now I've marked back nearly all boxes except for things I never use (msn
messenger and stuff), sofar OE works.

I'm really thankfull to all of you. Finally one of my lifes problems is
solved :p
