Outlook express to windows mail - problems...

I've just upgraded to a new pc with vista and windows mail from Xp & outlook
express (with virgin). To save my files and emails etc I used windows easy
transfer software and copied the files to an external hard drive and then
loaded it to the new PC. I initially had problems as my modem didn't install
but virgin sent me a wireless connector and all seemed OK. However, when I
click on send/receive mail I get an error message 'some errors occured while
processing the requsted tasks - please see details below.' But there are no
details! I have 3 email addresses. If I click on the little arrow next to
send/rec and then click on each email separately there is no problem.
Equally, if I click on 'receive all' there is no problem. When I click on
send/rec the first time I open windows mail there is no problem, but
thereafter always the error message. I've had Virgin remotely controlling
the pc for 90 minutes and they can't suss it!
Also, bizarrely at the top of the page it says inbox - outlook express
provided by virgin net even though I appear to be running windows mail (it
certainly isn't the usual outlook I have on my old pc).
Did I inadvertently load outlook as well as my emails on top of windows mail
and they've kind of merged?
I am really confused. Has anyone any experience of this and any suggestions
as to what I can do to sort it out relatively easily. Please help! David

It's more likely you've loaded just the old label for the old program than
enough of the old program for them to try merging.

The rest of your problems sound a little bit like a problem I once had that
was caused by interference from an antivirus program. What if any antivirus
programs do you have, and have you ever had a Norton or McAfee
antivirus program on that computer, even a trial version?

Also check your list of installed programs to see if you have either the
Google Toolbar program or the SMS Desktop program installed. If you
do, uninstall them since they cause problems in Windows Mail. A web site
that allows you to ask for a Google search is not a problem.

Thanks for the advice. Virgin have suggested how to remove the old label by
typing something into the 'run' box on the start menu - trouble is I can't
find 'run' on vista?
I did have a google toolbar on my old pc but not on the new one. I'm
running Norton 360 on the new one, norton internet security 2008 on the old
one. Even if I shut it down the problems persist.
Any further help and advice would be most gratefully received.

Cheers

Sorry, me again. I do appear to have google desktop - is that an issue?
Thanks

If that doesn't cure your problem, most versions of the Norton antivirus
program aren't compatible with Windows Mail, either, so uninstall
the one on the Vista machine. The problems they cause are often slow
to show up though.

The uninstall program for Norton often leaves too much behind,
though, so you often need to download and run this cleanup program
after the uninstall:

You may even need to remove your email account under Windows Mail,
then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.

If this cures your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus program
that doesn't cause such problems. Most versions of the McAfee antivirus
program and a recent version of the Trend antivirus program are bad choices;
they also cause problems in Windows Mail. I recommend either avast! or
AVG, either one with a custom install where you tell it to leave out the
part
that scans email:
