Outlook Express post Service Pack 2

Unable to start PPS presentations from within Outlook Express (ie, .pps) all
other attachments work as in word, exel, jpeg etc etc. No error message given
and pressentation works on other computer when forwarded via email.
Ctrl+Alt+Del shows POWERPOINT.EXE using 30MB memory with alg.sys alongside
it the computer then refuses to close powerpoint and I have to end task with
taskmanager to return to normal.
Microsofts answer is to say to redefine the file association with Powerpoint
this should not be the case as this is a brand new computer that was only
upgraded with the servicepack before connecting to the internet, having
Norton Anti-virus installed before connecting.
I have used sfc /scannow re-installed office xp and am now considering a
format and new install of everthing just to be rid of this problem??
Anyone any idea`s before I plunge in and format!!!!!

Why not simply try saving attachment. Start Powerpoint, File/Open. Easier
than formating the HDD.

By right clicking the attachment powerpoint is activated and tries to open
the file so no luck there.
using save attachment to desktop and then via powerpoint trying to open the
file then same result.
I have seen on the net that IE and OE could be corrupted post service pack 2
could this be the problem???

All security settings are correct as they are the same on 3 computers that I
use so there is no reason why the pps files should not open.
I am thinking that ther could be a corruption of IE and OE which can only of
happened post srvice pack 2.
I have relayed said info to Microsoft and they are in deep consultation with
there makers but I shall not hold my breath waiting for there reply.

Ms Journal is not installed.
I can now veiw .pps after re-association in file and folders options but
must save the pressentation from the email to My Documents and then open
Power point and using open can veiw the said pressentation.
A long winded solution to what must be the smallest fault in the system, I
forgot to add this problem occurs on my Dutch computer which is Windows XP
Pro +SP2 from an original CD installation also Office XP Fully Updated
(without outlook or frontpage)
Thanks for the response so far PA Bear
