outlook express password

When I send an email I get prompted for my password.
This only happens the first time. All subsequent emails
send ok as long as I keep outlook express open. If I close
OE and send an email I get prompted for may password again.
Windows 98SE/ IE-6 / Outlook Express 6 ..
