Hi everyone! A while back,i installed XP Pro on top of
ME.Let's say that the installation went smoothly, except
that after i installed IE 6,i found that Outlook Express
has gone missing! This puzzles me,because as far as i
know,IE 6 includes OE (?).

Remembering that anyway i need to install Office XP
(which also includes Outlook XP;thus making it my email
client), i found out later after clicking Outlook XP's
shortcut on my desktop that Outlook XP asked me to
install OE from IE5!(?) Now this meant that both email
client softwares have gone 'AWOL' and don't work!

So how do i reinstall or repair IE6 in XP Pro? Unlike
98se,if my memory serves me right, which is listed in the
ADD/REMOVE applet of Control Panel, where can i reach IE
to remove it?And off course, what happened to OE?

Many thanks for taking the time to read and answer my
query!

Gabriel

Hi Gabriel,

What exactly do you mean by:
...except that after i installed IE 6,i found that Outlook Express
has gone missing!

IE is already included in the XP install. No other install of IE was
needed. Either way:

To reinstall IE and OE:

Enable Reinstallation of Internet Explorer or OE (Line 114)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

After running this edit, rename the CatRoot2 folder (Windows\CatRoot2) and
then go to Start/Run and enter:

%SystemRoot%\Inf. Then locate the MSOE50.INF file. Right click it and
select Install.

Re-install IE - Go to Start/Run, and type :
"rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\inf\ie.inf"

Set Outlook Express as default mail client - Start/Run and type in:
MSIMN.EXE /REG

Restore OE to the E-mail List in Internet Options (Row 9)

Restore Hotmail, Outlook and OE under Programs (Line 250)

Reset OE for Send To , Mail To , Send Mail (Line 64)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

If the above doesn't help, verify this key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Outlook Express

In the right pane for DLLPath, it should read:
%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msoe.dll
