Hotmail is not longer supported in Outlook Express. It says you cannot set
it up there but you can

Instead of using (e-mail address removed) just change it to
(e-mail address removed) choosing POP3

pop3.live.com
smtp.live.com

When you finished the wizard you can remove the '2' from your e-mail
address, go to advanced tab & tick SSL (SMTP: 587, POP3: 995)

If you type in POP3 Hotmail etc into www.google.co.uk it finds many
tutorials on how to configure it

When I open Outlook Express Version 6 I get this:
http://chopperbobby.com/oe.jpg
Please help me restore my OE.
Win XP Home

I found that my incoming and outgoing port numbers were compromised somehow.
After trying several combinations of port numbers I stumbled on to the
correct settings. Now my OE works.
Thank you all for your help.

Sure you're not getting that message in a browser instead of OE ?

Since the old link showed OE messages I'm assuming a typo
for a revision. OTOH I never saw the original so maybe the

After I got OE working again I discovered that all of the folders I made did
not reinstall.
But the folders are still in WLM. How can I transfer these folders from my
WLM to my OE?
thank you,

[Adding WLMail newsgroup to the crosspost]

CrystalBall© sez...

While they're available in WLMail, the separate set of Hotmail-specific
folders you're used to having in OE (illustration:
http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/i/tr/cms/contentPics/t01220030403shu01_C.gif)
are no longer available now that WebDAV support has ended and you're
accessing the account via POP3.

All of the folders remain available via the webmail page:
http://mail.live.com.

If there's a message in, e.g., your Junk Mail folder that you need or want
in OE, Move the message to your inbox (i.e., on the webmail page). The next
time OE polls the account, the message will download into OE's Inbox folder.

Then I could move the messages in the folders I made, like "Bob's Stuff"
into the in box, and it will appear in the in box in OE. Correct?
Then I create the same folder (again) in OE and move the messages there.
Why didn't I think of that?
Thank you,
Bob

You can download Windows Live Mail and sync all of your Hotmail folders.
download.live.com\wlmail
OE will no longer sync your folders.

He's already got WLMail installed, Ron:

My CrystalBall© assumed the "folders [he] made" are additional, user-created
folders on the webmail page (http://mail.live.com). When he was accessing
the account via WebDAV, those same folders and their contents showed up in
OE. Now he's accessing the account _in OE_ via POP3 so they're not
there...but they are present in WLMail kos it's synching with & displaying
the webmail folders.

chopperbobby changed from WebDAV to pop3 access in OE.
If you go to http://home.live.com, the page says Windows Live. Click on
Mail and you are going to Windows Live - Mail. chopperbobby would not be
the first to call online Hotmail, Windows Live Mail.

Does your crystal ball say if chopperbobby will make any more posts to this
thread? :)
