Hi ... I'm working on Office 2003. When opening Outlook, I get a pop-up
message :

"An extension failed to initialize. Can't open file extend.bat ... file may
be missing, etc."

Where do I find this file and how do I get it accepted ?.

Many Thanks

Can you please clarify? Your subject states Outlook Express but you mention
Office 2003 and Outlook. Which is your question about?

I beg your pardon ... had my wires all crosssed. The question relates to
Microsoft Office Outlook ... and I even made it worse ... it should read
'extend.dat' not .bat.

My apologies ...

The .dat files for Outlook are hidden. You need to unhide these files and
folders (use Windows Explorer to do this) before you can search for it. If
you do find it, rename it (while Outlook is closed). When you reopen Outlook
it should recreate.

That should be "extend.dat"

If you're using Windows XP, while Outlook is closed, open Windows Explorer
and in the Address field, enter

%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

and click Go. You should see the file there. Select it and click Delete.
Start Outlook.
