Outlook error:"Some of the items in 'Deleted Items' folder could not be deleted"

I am unable to delete files from my inbox using the "Del"
key. The file can only be deleted when I use the "Shift"
+ "Del" keys.

Upon exiting MS Outlook Express, I receive the following
message:

"Some of the items in 'Deleted Items' folder could not be
deleted. An error has occured."

Close OE. Find and delete Deleted Items.dbx in your identity's store.

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

Disable Background Compacting and frequently perform a manual compact of all
OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
