Outlook Error Message

When trying to delete email from my inbox or personal folders I get the
following error message: "The messaging interface has return an unknown
error. If the problem persists, restart outlook.

I've done the following to try and resolve the issue:
1-Closed and restarted outlook
2-Emptied deleted items folder
3-Ran inbox repair tool
4-Ran "Compact" option to reduce size of my personal folder file.
5-Removed old pst and created new pst. - When I created a new pst I started
to receive mail again and my mailbox seemed to work propertly.
6-Imported old pst. - Mailbox stopped working and received "messaging
interface unknown error message" again.

My pst is approx 1,885,258K. Any suggestions or solutions to resolve this
problem is most appreciated in advance!

First suggestion is to post what is your Outlook version?

Hint: Versions 2002 and lower do not have support for large .pst file and will show corruption at about 1.6-1.7 gigs. Sounds like this is your problem.

Sorry...I'm running Outlook 2000 SP-3. Should I upgrade? If so to what
version?

Minimum 2003 for unicode .pst format support. However, you need to truncate your current .pst file to continue to have access. See http://www.slipstick.com/problems/repair2gbpst.asp for instructions.

if you do upgrade to a current version of Outlook, you will still need to create a unicode .pst file and then copy your items from the old to the new. The new format allows for a 20 gig .pst file by default but you can tweak the registry to allow up to 32 terabytes.
