Hi. I work in a small office, where on Wed nights we do our auto downloads
and then a few hour later our backups. This am our official email - outlook
- xp pro will receive emails but not send. I checked all the settings and
they are at 110 and 25 - all settings are right but no ability to send. Get
a failed message that says connected but no response. called home office -
server is up and working. Last time this happened symantec protection 11.0
was changing the 25 to 110 - but tech support fixed it by locking the 110 and
25 in the Symantec settings. so anyone else having this issue? The short
version of the error message is: sent test e-mail, found specified server,
no response from server, verify port and SSl info.... .
thank you. cath

Do you have a firewall in the way?

What is the specific error message? It would be extremely helpful to know.
Also, try increasing your server timeout interval to see if that helps.

If you have antivirus scanning incoming and outgoing mail this can and often
will cause problems such as what you see. It won't compromise security since
your real time scanner will catch everything it's been updated for.

Disable the AV integration with Outlook or uninstall it. When you reinstall
omit the Outlook integration. If you're using Norton/Symantec you'll probably
have to use the ininstall tool on their website.

Hi. thank you for your response. What I have found is that our DLS
provider, Qwest, has started blocking port 25 which is our outgoing port.
Since our busn email server provider only uses port 25 - I am currently
asking it to be unblocked for our business. hope this works.

They block port 25 so you can't send mail from another provider, to reduce
the risk of spam. They will only allow mail to be sent from their network
if you are using their mail service. It is not likely that they'll change
it just for you...

Contact your business email server provider to see if they have an
alternative port, such as 587, available, for authentication.

If not, you're most likely out of luck and would need to change mail
providers.
