Outlook Email Line Spacing Problems

Hi:
I have seen this problem listed and the proposed solutions,
but there is still a problem.

1) Assume that both, Word and Outlook, are closed.

2) Assume that in Outlook, I have Word 2003 selected
as the application to view my email messages.
This is a default setting in Outlook located at:
Tools > Options > Mail Format > Message Format (1st checkbox)

3) In Word the parargraph default line-spacing is set as follows:
Format > Paragraph > Indents and Spacing
Spacing before and after, are both set to 0,
and the Line spacing is set to Single.

If I bring up Word, the line spacing is 0, but
if I bring up Outlook, I get "double spacing"
when typing an email message
and the Spacing is set to Auto, not 0.

Why is Outlook changing my Word setting for the spacing
from 0 to Auto, and how do I prevent Outlook from doing so ?

I have looked for the Normal.dot file, and viewed it,
but it is empty. It is 29k in size but has no content.
So, what is resetting the line spacing, why, and
how do I prevent it from doing so ?

Thanx
DaleB

I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!! Worked on it
a couple of hours last night. I even modified the paragraph format for the
NORMAL "style" (and the NORMAL Web style) within email and pressed "Add to
Template" to save the change, but when I would exit and come back in it would
default to the original paragraph style (Auto spacing before and after). I
have my message format set to HTML and have also verified that my option is
set to use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit email messages. If anyone has
a fix to this problem, please reply to both of us.....

John:

The only "patch" that I have come across is to hold down the Shift key
while pressing Enter, when you are composing in Outlook; but,
I do not consider this a fix...just a patch. There should be a way
to set the line spacing to a user-specified default value. I can do
that in Word, but when Outlook uses Word as its editor, the
setting doesn't hold.

You are right - that's not a fix or a patch. SHIFT/ENTER is a forced
carriage control in all microsoft applications, and it shouldn't be necessary
here. I just upgraded to Outlook 2003 from an earlier version and this was
definitely not a problem earlier. My paragraph formatting in WORD - like
yours - is also working fine. It does not make sense that if WORD is the
email editor that it would be different. Hopefully a CMP will see this post
and help us out. I'm afraid it might be a bug in this version. I'm tempted
to call support and pay the price to figure this one out. If I find out
anything I will let you know.

Did you manage to resolve this problem, if so would you let me know how
please? I have tried the proposed solutions but still appear to have
double-line space. Any assistance to resolve this matter will be very much
appreciated.

Thanks
Ralph
