Outlook email doesn't work. internet does.

I've been using Outlook for a year with Direcway.com as my ISP. This week I
was unable to get or send email 3 times at night but could send/receive the
next morning. I got an error message that said either that the response had
timed out or that the connection had been interrupted. I contacted
direcway.com and they said since my internet connection was ok and I could
use web mail to get and receive my messages that I should do that instead of
using outlook. They said that outlook was propably was corrupted. I like
outlook. How do I fix it?

Do you have antivirus or antispam software installed that can scan POP3/SMTP
mail in realtime? If yes, these products can interfere with Outlook's
ability to communicate with a mail server. Next time it happens, try
disabling just the scanning of e-mail to see if the error messages stop.
