outlook e mail sound alert

I have the sound box checked but I still can not get a sound when a new
message comes in. I read some place that the sound would not work if the MS
Powerpoint is running. I have powerpoint on my machine but not activated.
is that a problem?

So what sound file do you have assigned to the new mail notification
event in the Sounds applet in Control Panel? When you test that sound
file, do you hear anything (presuming your speakers aren't muted)?
