Outlook downloads email that already existed

Hi guys,
My Outlook is downloading emails that already existed. For example, i
download an email message now and after 5 mins later when I start Outlook
again, the same email message will be downloaded once more! How do I resolve
that? Thanks in advance. (Btw, I'm using Outlook 2003.)

Roger

Maybe you leave a copy on the mail server ?
Normally, your provider will erase mail that you downloaded, but you
can instruct them, to retain the mail. That way, your outlook will
keep finding mail on the server...
So check your settings at your providers.

If you are using an AV and have it set to scan incoming and outgoing mail,
turn that option off. It is redundant and is most often the cause of
multiple emails downloading.

Check your settings aren't set to leave messages on server as follows:

On the top menu, select "Tools", then "e-mail accounts"
Select button "View or change existing e mail accounts" then click
"next"

Select the account you are having problems with and click on "Change"

Click the "More Settings" tab

Click the advanced tab and make sure that the "Leave a copy of
messages on server" box is unchecked.

Hope that sorts it for you.

Peter

Well, I can't really do that. If I uncheck the "Leave a copy of messages on
server" checkbox, the copy of the email will be deleted from the server.
This would pose another problem. For instance, if I want to check an email
which I've previously accessed at home, from another location, say my
office, I wouldn't be able to do so because that email would already have
been deleted from the server. Any better alternatives?

Hi Milly,
The antivirus that I'm using doesn't support email scanning functions so I
don't think that's the case. I've also installed Office 2003 Service pack 2
but that doesn't seems to help either. Is there any other problem that might
have caused it? Thanks again.

Can't think of another solution, but that's why you keep downloading
the same messages.

Sorry
