Outlook Deleted Item Retention

Mailbox resides on an Exchange 2003 server. A user had an issue with not
receiving emails from another user.

Msg tracking showed the msg was delivered to the user's mailbox. In checking
the mailbox, I found the message in the "inbox" deleted Item
Retention/dumpster. The user said they had not seen nor touched the message.
I checked rules and found no rule which would cause this msg to be placed in
the "inbox" deleted item retention/dumpster.

Any assistance in solving this mystery would be most helpful

Possible intervention by a third-party add-in improperly manipulating
messages, such as an antispam or -virus scanner.
