Outlook closes when you close an email message XP 2003 Office Pro

When closing an email message by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand
corner, my whole outlook program closes with no error message. This is XP
2003 Office Professional. Is there any update that will stop this occuring or
will I need to re-install Office?
