Initially installed Office 2003 Pro w/ BCM as upgrade [finally] to Office/XP.
This morning did Office Update and installed SP1; attempted to install SP2
but received repeated failures - both thorugh auto update and manual. Then
when attempting to initiate Outlook, after other add-ins loaded, BCM
initaites and presents popup error: ""object reference not set to an instance
of an object" and then crashes Outlook. No recovery. Only circumvention was
to uninstall BCM.

following hotfix

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;913695

Try downloading and extracting the files and run the full file this should
take care if the issue

You apparently did not read what I wrote, so I repeat: "attempted to install
SP2
but received repeated failures - both thorugh auto update and manual. "

That said, the matter still remains unresolved and the product totally
unusable.
