I had a disaterous PC crash recently and lost my outlook info. However, I
thought I had the info backed up on an external. However, when I restored
the info I had lost the most recent 6 months of e mails and archived info. I
want to back up daily and have set this with the autoarchive settings but how
may I be sure that I back up the most recent data so that if I crash the most
recent info is re-installed - what are the settings for not losing more than
a day's worth of info?

Perhaps you could get a great answer from an Office Outlook news group. This
newsgroup addresses issues with Windows Mail which was deliberately renamed
to avoid confusion.
