Outlook attachments

In Outlook I get an email with an attachment. The name style is:
name.email with an envelope to the left and the size to the right.

I double click on it and get this message:
The form required to view this message cannot be displayed. Contact your
administrator.

First, I am the administrator. Second, it is a home computer. Third, I
could open attachments of this type in Outlook Express. I just cannot open
them in Outlook. This also fails for attached file types of .eml.

Help!

Outlook doesn't use the .email or .eml format but the msg-format. You should
be able to open it with Outlook Express or in a text editor (except for the
binaries of course).

Jim I'm having the EXACT problem and no one seems to have an answer. This
problem started about two months ago. I don't understand why I have to go to
"Outlook Express" to do what I used to do in "Outlook". I even went as far to
un-install "Office", (rebooted) and re-install "Office" and the problem was
still there.

Sorry but I can only empathise. Let me know if you learn anything.

Hi!

Well, I have discovered I can do a 'save as' and save the attachment, then
go into Windows Explorer, double click the file and Microsoft Outlook opens
it! Weird, huh?

But I cannot open it as an attachment.

If anyone has some 'pull' at Microsoft, they should fix this.

Hi Jim,
It looks like we are on the same page. I have also moved the attachments to
"Window Explorer" and then open it with "MS Outlook". I'm just letting you
know that I also have "been there / done that". This problem is driving me
nuts!

Below is an answer that I received for a similar problem. I had to use
"Method 3" to resolve the problem. And it worked!

Clear the forms cache
There are different methods that you can use to clear the Outlook forms
cache. Each method has advantages and disadvantages.
• Method 1
Microsoft recommends that you use the Clear Cache method. To do this, follow
these steps:
1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab.
2. Click Advanced Options.
3. In the Advanced Options box, click Custom Forms.
4. In the Custom Forms box, click Manage Forms.
5. In the Forms Manager box, click Clear Cache.

• Method 3
You can also rename the Frmcache.dat file. Do not do this as your first
attempt to resolve a problem with the forms cache because the Frmcache.dat
file may contain information about other forms. However, if your other
efforts to clear the forms cache have failed, you can rename the Frmcache.dat
file and then restart Outlook.
