Outlook 2007, opening .eml attachments

When I open a message from a friend that has a .eml attachment I can't open
that attachment. I get a message "This file cannot be previewed beuase of an
error with the following previewer: Microsoft Office Outlook message and item
previewer. To open this file in its own program, double click it". When I do
nothing happens. How can I open these attachments?
