outlook always default email application - why

Hi

I use Outlook 2003 for my callender and OE6 for email

Until a week ago, OE6 always remained the default email application unless I
installed a patch or updated Outlook, at which time it would set itself as
default. Fair enough.

Last week I upgraded by BIOS (not sure if this is relevant, but just so you
know)

Now everytime I turn on Outlook, it becomes default mail programme.

In options/ general, OE6 tells me it is not the default.

Internet options lists Outlook as default

But in Outlook/Options/other the default mail, calender, contacts box is not
ticked.

I change it all back and OE6 is defalut. the I turn on Outlook and it
becomes default.

Any ideas

Thanks

Thanks for this (sorry for the delay in replying)

This seems to explain why Outlook takes over as default mail client after
and update (which is what it used to do for me), but no it sets as default
client evenry time it opens. - Is there a way around this - it always used
to be fine running it with OE6 ?

Thanks

Mike - good idea, the value was set to "0". I have now set it to "1"

But still the same problem. Whenever Outlook opens, it sets itself as
default mail client over OE6.

However when you look in Outlook tools/options/other, the default box is not
ticked.

Manually setting OE6 as default works ok -even if Outlook is open- as long
as Outlook is not restarted.

(In case it makes any difference, I am using Outlook 2003 (11.8118.8122)
SP2)

Are there any other areas in the registry which could cause autonmatic
defaulting like this ?

Thanks

One other thing

Changing the value from 0 to 1 in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Options\General\Check
Default Client

simply appears to tick or untick the box in Outlook. It dosent seem to
change the it automatically becoming default client

Thanks

I don't think there is much you can do.

From what I understand what should happen is that when you start Outlook
you should get the prompt that it is not the default mail program. At
that point you can tell not to make itself the default.

If you continue to have problems, you should ask in an Outlook
Newsgroup.

Use the following newsgroups for questions or problems with
