Outlook adds .txt attachment whenever html e-mail is sent

Alright, I can't figure this one out. I am using Outlook 2002 and whenever I
send an email formatted in html it adds a .txt file. The last filename was
"msg-25487-2481.txt(76B)." The file contains the same text as the e-mail.
It doesn't do it when I use plain text. This file is picked up by some virus
scanners. I thought it was how microsoft encoded html, but the attachment
shows up in other outlook programs.

Outlook is configured to use Western European (ISO) encoding if that makes a
difference. Really I have no idea what I am doing. I was just wondering if
this is supposed to happen or are there any settings I can change so this
stops whenever I send an html e-mail. Do I have a virus or spyware? I don't
use signatures. I don't even know what to call this attachment so I am
having trouble searching for the solution. Should I just send plain text
e-mail until I pony up and buy a newer version of outlook?

Thanks for the help and sorry if this was an improper post, it was my first
time doing this. I'll be happy to supply anymore information that is needed.

I should also add that my Outlook sent folder does not show these
attachments. It shows up in inboxes that are capable and set to read html
(outlook express and a university web version of outlook, specifically)
