Outlook address book security

Stan Cronin

A friend sent me the following. Is this true?

Something else you might want to do is add the
address "(e-mail address removed) to your address book. When you
add it name it !001 or something that will make it the
first name listed alphabetically. There is no such thing
as x.com. Some worms travel my automatically by going
through your address book. It you get one of those
worms, it cant send itself to your contacts because of
the x.com address.

Thanks for your help.

Highly unlikely, Stan. Have you ever clicked the Send button for an email
and had the email returned to you marked "undeliverable", realizing when you
examined it that you mis-typed the email address? Email virusus/worms will
harvest any and all addresses in your address book without regard to valid
domains; any emails sent to addresses with invalid domains will simply be
returned as "undeliverable".

You may want also to check this out at the web-site of the manufacturer of
your anti-virus software; or post your question in the newsgroup:
microsoft.public.security.virus
