I have been using Outlook 2007 for a little over 2 weeks and today
encountered a problem. I onlt use it for email handling and address book, not
contact management.

It opened fine this morning and I used it normally. I closed it and went to
do other things. At some point I tried to reopen it and it started to open,
shows that it is loading my in-box and then disappears.

Several re-attempts resulted in varying degrees of displaying some or all of
my in-box, followed immediately by its disappearance. I tried to repair
Office, do a reboot and it loaded fine. But when I closed and reopened the
same problem occured. Itired to simply reboot but the problem still occured.
Redoing the repair allowed me backin again.

I tried to run scanpst.exe back seem to be unable to locate my .pst file.

It's possible it didn't close properly. Use Task Manager to see if any
OUTLOOK.EXE processes remain.

file.

It's default location is a hidden folder. You must enable viewing hidden
files and folders in Windows before the file broswer dialogue can locate it.
The default location depends on your version of Windows.

I have hidden files set for viewing. When outlook is working, I still cannot
find any .pst files.

If you're using Outlook with any non-Exchange account, there MUST be a PST
or Outlook could not work. The default location in XP is
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
and in Vista
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook

Put the appropriate path in Windows Explorer's Address field and click Go.

Thank Brian,

I finally found the outlook.pst file and ran scanpst.exe on it. It found and
then corrected errors. Outlook loading issue still occured. Repaired Office
again, rebooted and opened outlook okay. Closed outlook and tried to reopen.
Same problem.

I am running Windows XP Pro w/service Pack 2.

The next thing to try is to delete the file outcmd.dat probably in the same
folder as the PST. A new mail profile is the next thing to try. If you're
running Google Desktop Search, uninstall it until you're done diagnosing the
problem.

Deleting the outcmd.dat did not correct problem. Not sure how to create a new
mail profile. Does it mean losing all my saved contacts and emails?
