The first time I opened outlook 2007, I incorrectly configured the mail
server as MS Exchange instead of POP3. After a couple failures to connect,
it says the OST file is not valid and closes. I have no way to get around
this, and the problem is that I can't open outlook 2007 to fix it. How do I
delete that mail server setting (registy and file searches prove no help as
yet Uninstall/re-install was not helpful either).

If you're using Windows XP go into the Control Panel and open the mail applet
to delete the email profile and create a new one.

I am having the exact same issue... but I have Windows Vista Home Premium and
had the problem with both office 2003 and then 2007. (Originally installed
and screwed up the setting in 2003). I have been unable to find any fix for
it. I have removed and reinstalled both Office 2003 and 2007 and still have
the same issue. How can the settings remain after totally uninstalling and
upgrading even?
Any fixes?

Thanks

dorty

This is because the setup routine does not touch personal data files are
registry keys. Since your mail profile is a combination of both, these
settings persist. No fixes other than what Kathleen mentioned of using the
Mail applet in the control panel to modify the the Outlook mail profile.
