I am running Outlook 2007 with Windows XP SP3. I cannot get my messages to
archive. The archive utility shows in the status bar that it is running, but
it does not archive any of my messages. According to the settings I created,
they should be archiving. I know how to check the modified date and that is
not the issue.

Please help me!!

The modified date is almost always the issue. Can you describe the symptoms
in greater detail?

I click on File --> Archive --> Archive all folders according to their
AutoArchive settings --> OK

An icon that looks like a folder appears in the lower right hand corner of
my screen and it says "Archiving" next to it. After 1-2 seconds it
disappears, as thought archiving is complete. But actually no messages have
been archived.

Be absolutely sure it's not the modified date. Was the archive PST created in
the proper Windows folder?

How do I determine if the PST file is in the proper folder? That could be
the problem because I think I may have tried to move it.

Click Tools>Options>Other>AutoArchive and look where Outlook believes the
archive PST should be. Then open that folder in Windows Explorer and see if
the archive PST is there.

The archive.pst file should be here: C:\Documents and Settings\Mary\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

But there is no archive.pst file in that folder. Or anywhere else that I
can see. Should it create one when it starts archiving?

Does the "archive or delete old items" box have to be checked? It is not
currently. If I do check it, will it archive according to the settings I
have created for each folder? I left it unchecked because it looks like
checking it will tell it to use the default settings (which I don't want to
do).

Yes. Do't forget, though, that "Local Settings" is a hidden folder and unless
you enable viewing hidden files and folders or you enter that full path
directly in Windows Explorer, you won't be able to browse to it.

Yes, it does. Otherwise you've given AutoArchive nothing to do.

It should obey the per-folder settings unless you click "Apply these settings
to all folders now". Make sure you specifically choose "Do not archive" on
those folders you don't want archived at all.
