Outlook 2007 + Vista Upgrade = "you don't have appropriate permiss

Hi Everyone,
I'm not sure if this has been posted anywhere already, but I am experiencing
some issues with Outlook 2007 after having upgrade-installed Windows Vista
Ultimate RTM (I participated in the beta testing and received a copy, then
couldn't bear to wait any longer to try the final version out). Anyways, the
only way I am able to send and receive is by running Outlook 2007 as an
Administrator. Otherwise, in standard user mode, it spits out "You do not
have appropriate permission to perform this operation" when I attempt to send
and receive. It also seems that Outlook is unable to read the regular PST
file and the archive PST file. I also experience this issue when attempting
to connect to an Exchange 2003 server.

Upgraded from what? Windows XP and Outlook 2003? Are you using the RTM
version of Outlook?

Hi Robert,

Sorry for not being more clear. I was running XP SP2 with Outlook 2007 RTM
and all I did was upgrade XP SP2 to Vista Ultimate RTM.

Hi Robert,

Apologies about the double post, but I figured I'd add some more
information. Even after creating a new profile with a different personal
folder file, I still receive the same error. I am now attempting to
uninstall and re-install Outlook to see if this will resolve the issue.

After attempting to repair and remove then re-install, I had no success. I
performed a backup of my data (using Windows Easy Transfer) and formatted the
hard drive and re-installed Vista from scratch, then restored my data and
re-installed Outlook. Now it works like a charm. Kudos to the Vista team
for Windows Easy Transfer, MUCH better for restoring app information. Even
kept my outlook Colour coding :)

Good to hear you've got it solved. Sorry to hear you had to reformat due to
a bad Windows upgrade but I can recommend doing a clean install over an
in-place-upgrade any time so you're much better off this way anyway ;-)

Hi Robert,

The only reason I was trying an upgrade was due to the fact that I was
testing for issues like this in case my organization that I work for were to
use the upgrade deployment option that was recommended by Microsoft for
businesses.

This pretty much slashes any hopes I had of easing the transition by
removing the need to backup and means I'll have a lot more foot work to do.

but better to discover this now than to bung up a manager's laptop and have
them throw a fit on me later :)

That's true!

On the bright side; Vista clean install deployment is much faster than an
upgrade. When configured correctly you can do a complete deploy of Vista and
additional applications and settings in about 8 minutes.
