Outlook 2007 Unable to open/preview.msg files

Hi,

I have recently installed office standard onto a fresh copy of Windows
XP and cannot get outlook to open .msg files. If I double click on
the file, outlook briefly in the task bar and then disappears and
nothing happens. I have checked the file type association and it
appear correct. It opens using outlook with the /f switch.

Along similar lines, when I receuve a message with a msg file
attachment, I get an error that says
"This file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following
previewer: Microsoft Office Outlook message and item previewer. To
open this file, double-click it."

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I receive many emails
with .msg attachments.

Cheers,

James

Same problem, here as of 10-16-07. Microsoft "help" personnel in
Canada wasted two hours of my time and didn't do anything
constructive. Have tried to reload Outlook 2007 and it won't let me.
Gates strikes again....

I am having the same problem and am very frustrated by the inconsistent
behavior of the viewer. I have received the same message and have gone in
circles on the site trying to get a solution. Can anybody help?

I am also having the same problem. I have tried all possible workarounds to
fix this issue. Is microsoft reading monitoring this blog? Can you please
help fix this immediately and notify every poster, please.

The problem is typically caused by Google Desktop Search. If you have that
installed, uninstall it.

Microsoft rarely monitors this group and it's a newsgroup, not a blog.

This solution from someone's posting I found worked: go to tools>internet
options>advanced>security and then make sure the ss2 box is checked. Then,
restart explorer. It cleared up my viewing problems and a number of other
issues with Vista and WE7. Good luck!
