I loaded Office '07 last year and have been running with no problems until
yesterday. The problem is that when x2 click to open a mail item I get the
following error message - "Cannot open this item. The text formatting command
is not available. It may not be installed correctly. Install MS Outlook
again." I have re-booted and then re-installed Outlook with no success. I've
created a new mail profile (ie; copied the original one and set the new
profile as the default) but the problem persists. Looking at some of the
previous posts I'm sure I'm not the first person to experience this problem.
Does anyone have the solution (pls)?

Do you have AVG or another email scanner installed? Uninstall it (the
email scanner portion only.)

Hi Pat - I'm running Avast as my anti-virus software. I've tried diabling the
e-mail scanning functionality, but the issues with Outlook remain. Apprciate
the help; any orther ideas?

Does the same thing happen if you start Outlook in Safe Mode (Start |
Run | outlook /safe)?

There are many other possibilities; search Google with the full error
message.

Hi Pat - Managed to solve the problem by renaming a couple of Outlook files
(extend.dat & outcmd.dat). Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
