Outllook 2007 Will not Launch

Within the past two weeks, I noticed that Outlook 2000 was using
excessive Page File Resources on my home PC. The size of my Inbox was
approx.
1.8 gigs. I uninstalled Outlook 2000 and loaded Office 2007.

Office 2007 installed successfully but Outlook 2007 would not launch.
I received this error message:

"Unable to open your default email folders. The server is not
available. Contact your administrator if the conditions persists."

My internet provider is Comcast. My PC has Windows XP, SP2.
For Comcast access, Outlook is configured as a LAN, although
this is a single machine not connected to a server.

I then uninstalled Office 2007 and loaded Outlook 2000, which
worked but still had the legacy resource issues.

I have since uninstalled Outlook 2000, reinstalled Office 2007,
and loaded the Service Pack for Office 2007. Nonetheless,
I still receive this message when launching Outlook 2007:

"Unable to open your default email folders. The server is not
available. Contact your administrator if the conditions persists."

I'm now using Outlook Express for email, which works fine
but I miss the functionality of Outlook, which I have always
used on my home PCs and laptop.

I have run Office diagnostics, which found no issues, created
new Profiles via the Mail Icon in the Control Panel, and deleted
my profile from the Registry. None of these actions have enabled
me to successfully launch Outlook 2007.

I am very perplexed and frustrated.

When creating a New Profile did you also create a new data file, rather than
using your old data file?

I assume when you say Outlook is configured as a LAN you mean your mail
account connection is LAN?

With an Outlook 2000 data file of 1.8gb you have hit the point at which the
size can cause the data file to baulk, outlook 2000 has a data file size
limitation of 2gb, but problems can occur from 1.6gb
Outlook 2003 / 2007 using the new Unicode file format has a size limitation
of 20gb +
Installing the later version Outlook does NOT convert your data file to the
new format

Yes, I had created a new data file as well.

Right, my mail connection is LAN.

If I transfer my 1.8 gig. .pst file to my
laptop, which is still running Outlook 2000 without
any resource issues, is it likely that I can open
the file or will the file size immediately cause
Page Files problems on it?

I noticed that when I receive the error message and
before I shut down Outlook 2007, Page File usage
jumps to 2.28 gigabytes and Outlook is using 564,076K
of memory.

Have you applied MS Office / Win updates (NOT driver updates)?
Does outlook 2007 still fail to open with the new Profile & data file?
And only this new data file was attached to the Profile?
Did you test the accounts when you created the New Profile?
Have you also run Ofice Diagnostics from the Office cd?

And if you use the safe switch does it still fail to open

Outlook.exe /Safe

Have you run scanpst.exe on your original 'old' data file?
At this stage I would forget about uninstalling/reinstalling, swapping the
two Outlook versions on this PC

OL2k)

Untill you get 2007 running I would forget about moveing the old pst (BTW I
trust you have a copy of this pst on some other media)

i have only installed OFC2007 SP 1 at this point.

Yes, Outlook 2007 will not load with the new profile
and data file.

I did run Office Diagnostics from my PC.

I was not aware of Safe Mode until I read your reply
this morning. I tried it and it worked. Page File Resources
are only 418MB.

Yes, I did not run scnpst.exe on the Outlook 2000 file.
It found some errors and I repaired them.

Then once you have opened Outlook, from the safe switch, view Tools>Trust
Centre> add ins
Disable all none MS addins.
Close outlook, see if it now opens correctly.
If it doesnt your going to have to start it with the safe switch, then
review the add - ins and disable them all, then restart
If ok its a tedious process of enableing an add in at a time, then
restarting, untill you find the problomatic one

The good news is that I have accessed all of my Outlook 2000
emails in Safe Mode.

Also, Outlook 2007 will launch (I inactivated the add-ins)
but now I receive Error Message: Text Formatting Command Is Not Available,
which means I have no true functionality in normal mode.

I found and renamed the extend.dat file and relaunched Outlook.
This had no effect. I noticed too that there are no .srs or outcmd.dat
files in the Local Settings folder. Is this significant?

You have to enable add ins, a batch at a time (noting which ones you
enabled) until you find the one causing the problem.

Curiously, as of last night, Outlook 2007 will not launch in normal mode.

Open the Mail applet in Control Panel and click E-mail Accounts. What do you
see?

I see my email address and "POP/SMTP (send from this account by default)"
under Type.

OK, now open the Mail applet in Control Panel and use the Data Files button to
allow you to add a new PST to your mail profile. Click Set As Default to make
it the delivery locaiton. Now start Outlook again. What happens then?

And the E-mail Accounts tab shows only one account and it's a POP account?
